Fishing Brohm Lake

Brohm is stocked with rainbow trout and sits right off the highway. Here's what you need to know before you cast: licences, timing, where to fish and how to share the lake.

Most people come to Brohm to swim. Anglers know it as a handy stocked trout lake ten-odd minutes from downtown Squamish, with no motorboats and an easy hand-carry launch.

What's in the lake

Brohm is stocked with rainbow trout. Stocked lakes are a good bet for newer anglers and kids, because there are fish to catch, and a decent way to get a line wet without a long drive.

When to go

Time of year

Spring and early summer, while the water is still cool, and again in fall once it cools down after August, are generally the better trout seasons. In the heat of midsummer, fish tend to go deeper, and the lake is busy with swimmers.

Time of day

Early morning and evening are best for fishing, and they're also when the lake is quietest. Midday on a hot weekend is swim time; there will be people jumping off every ledge.

Where to fish

Don't want to strap a canoe to the car? Squamish Canoe Rental delivers canoes to the Brohm Lake pull-off, with paddles and PFDs included.

Simple setups that work

You don't need anything fancy for stocked trout. A light spinning rod with a small spinner or spoon, or a float with bait where permitted, will catch fish. Fly anglers do well with small nymphs and, on calm evenings, dry flies when fish are rising. Always check that your bait and gear are allowed under the current regulations.
